Managing Menopause with Food

Hi there!
One of my clients said she felt like menopause was taking over her body. Have you ever felt that way? Do menopause symptoms show up in different parts of your body? Brain Fog – Brain
If it seems that menopause is affecting every part of your body, that’s because it is! We women have estrogen receptors throughout our whole body. When estrogen decreases it affects receptors all over your body. Here’s a small sample of what that can feel like:
· Vascular System – Hot Flashes
· Nervous System – Mood Swings
· Muscles & Tendons – Joint Pain
· Endocrine System – Weight Gain
Every woman is different so your symptoms and how severe they are is what makes it your menopause.
But no matter what your specific symptoms are, you can take back some control by what you eat. Diet (not dieting) is important.
These are some basic rules:
Eat more fruit and veggies. Drink more water. Eat small amounts of protein throughout the day starting at breakfast. And don’t forget to include fiber in your diet.
Now there are some foods you should avoid. Super processed foods are a big no-no. Limit sugar and alcohol and be mindful of how much salt is in your food.
One of the best things you can do is to read the nutrition food label, starting with the list of ingredients. It’s important to know what is in the food you’re eating.
If you have a specific symptom, you may need to adjust what you eat with that in mind. For example, if you are concerned about osteoporosis then it’s important you have adequate calcium and vitamin D.
Or if you have hot flashes and night sweats, be sure to curb your coffee, alcohol and spicey foods.
When trying to manage your menopause symptoms, always start by looking at your diet. That’s something you can control. And it may be all it takes to have you feeling like yourself again.

You’ve got this!
Be well,

And more...
· Thanks to everyone who participated in my interviews. I listened and have developed an offering based on something that everyone felt was lacking – information! In June I will offer a 4-week program (once a week for 4 weeks) live on-line. Menopause: What to Expect. I will go over all the things you should know and what to expect in perimenopause. I’ll include everything from menopause symptoms and medical and holistic solutions to questions to ask your doctor and more. Plus, there will be time for Q&A. I’ll let you know when registration is open. It’s going to be super affordable. 😊
· There’s another offer that you will be very excited about. Still working out details and hopefully I’ll be able to share this in the next newsletter. I’m super excited about this.
· Last Tuesday was Earth Day. It’s always a good reminder to think and act sustainably. Fish is a very healthy source of protein and in some cases omega 3 fatty acids. Check out the Marine Stewardship Council.
