Hi there!
Last weekend was my birthday. Yes, I know birthdays are a recognition and celebration of the day you were born but… I believe the older you are the longer you should celebrate! My celebration started Friday evening, went all day Saturday and finally finished on Sunday night. And it may still go on. Maybe there’ll be pop-up celebrations to come. Who knows?
On my birthday I celebrate but I also like to take time to think about where I’ve been, what I’ve accomplished, what I’m grateful for and what I want to do next.
As the years start piling up, I also think about longevity and aging but not in a bad way.
For many women perimenopause and menopause is an unwelcome sign of aging. If you are suffering from menopause symptoms and feel like your body has betrayed you, it makes sense that you may be “feeling your age”. It also doesn’t help that we live in a youth-oriented society. Everything from beauty products to clothing to vacation packages are marketed to the young. It’s easy to feel dismissed.
But things are starting to shift because women in menopause represent a huge market share and more importantly, women are starting to see themselves differently.
We are starting to realize our own worth. We have life experience and lots of wisdom to offer.
We now also have role models, older women who are living fully. I love listening to older women like Isabel Allende, Jane Fonda, Isabella Rossini, Patti LaBelle or Gloria Steinem. These women are total bad asses and are still crushing it in their 80’s and 90’s.
It's not about aging. It’s about healthy aging. What are you doing to be healthy? Are you getting enough sleep? Do you move your body every day? Are you eating real food? Does your life include joy and gratitude? Do you have a sense of curiosity? These are all critical to living a long and healthy life.
We’re all going to get old (hopefully). Baring a major catastrophe, you can decide what aging will look like for you.
As for me, well… I plan on aging with curiosity, mischief and audacity.
